Power Hungry

So the Tory party has stated recently that it might not be able to prevent a tax rise and cutting taxes seems unlikely. After reading an article in the Independent a couple days ago talking about how the Tories would do well to ditch their pledge to cut inheritance tax...a move that some in the party would be most dipleased at yet would do them well in public opinion....you now have Ken Clarke talking about doing exactly that whilst official party line stays the same.

Anyway point is that the Tories are in dilema. They aren't riding high in the polls because they are 'good' or because of their policies....they are riding high because everyone hate Labour and are reluctant (read:too stupid :p ) to turn to the Lib Dems. Realisation that the Tory ways of old (...anti-europe, tax cutting, working class hating, rich loving...you get the idea....) would result in disaste for the UK if they got into power with this current crisis is obviosuly leading to them becoming more like New Labour as thats how to get to power and not loose it straight away, which is ironic because New Labour got in by leaving the left and heading in the Tories direction.

Result: a slightly center right party which is meant to be left wing (Labour) and a right wing party moving to the center (the Tories).

This is just bad for the UK, it results in tabloid grabbing policies which i'd almost call reactionairy in the way it damages the progressive cause.

The only way we all might benifit is if we end up with a hung parliment and the Lib Dems get some significant power. The country has gone way too right wing on issues of drugs, social freedoms and civil liberties and the Tories won't reverse that.

I fear the Tories in power as well because they are by far the most isolationist out the 3 parties due to the simple factthat they don't get on with either Europe or America. At least with Labour they try to get along with Europe occasionally and with Blair gone and the Democrats in power some American loving isn't as bad as it was, and the Lib Dems are senisable in realsing that unity with Europe is the long term intrest of making sure the British people proper in the future, even at the expense of relations with any future Republican US administration (I think they'd be a sbit strained with the Democrats but not half as bad as the Tories).

To end this somewhat directionless rant my general concern is that the Tories are just gonna morph into a public face that is acceptable, get into power and be divided by struggles as there real face re-appears and we all rememeber why we hated them in the first place.

Gojira

GOJIRA were so very awesome last night at the Bristol o2 accedemy 2. Tiny little room packed full of sweaty bodies going mental when they came on. I was pretty much at the front (3rd row kinda deal with Kirk and Mike in front of me) and the band were right our faces which was awesome, and they fucking on form, sounded excellent, really heavy and really tight! Good setlist, didn't include some of my favourites but they've got so many good songs they were bound to miss some out! Stuff that I remember standing out (which was alot!) was Oberus, The Heaviest Matter in the Unviverese, Backbone, Flying Whales, From The Sky, A Sight To Behold, the Way Of All Flesh, the Art Of Dying...fuck it they were all really good! They seemed to really appreciate the audience as well, shaking everyones hands after etc which was cool. Fucking good gig!

Albums

(From Facebook...)

So a few of you have done the album note so time for me to have a go.

Gonna do it as 30 because there's just sooooo many.

Ok sort of a chronological order to this. I tried to remember the order i got them in but no doubt I got some the wrong way round. Oh and only 1 album per band....apart from Machine Head...cuz they get 2 for being so far apart in the timeline.

Oh most of the first ones were either bought at Replay or the cool one in the coridoor which I forget the name of (edit - cam tells me Onyx). Both now defunct.

1. Rage Against The Machine - Self Titled
This is the 1st album I ever bought, so it started off the trend really! I was 16 and discovering rock music, and this really set me off on this metaller direction :D
2. Nirvana - From the Muddy Banks of the Wishkah
Yup, along with RATM they got me into this whole alternative thing! I think this was my brothers album as well...not even mine :O And I have no idea where it is now... Anyway it was live and so raw and awesome. They also made me wanna go and research the whole Seattle band thing, which leads to the next one....

3. Pearl Jam - VS
Ok so Nirvana was awesome but this album really set me off into the whole grunge scene.

4. Soundgarden - Superunkown
5. Alice In Chains - Facelift
Two awesome albums that basically cemented the fact I loved alternative music and this lifestyle was the one for me.

6. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
7. Machine Head - The Burning Red
The first 2 'proper metal' albums I owned. Machine Head was given me to me by Ben Burden. Cheers Neb! It was like 'this is really heavy...and really good!!!' And I still remember going and buying that Metallica album. Love of thrash metal starting right there. Anyone wondering why I was going so mental when Metallica opened with 3 songs from this album at Reading last year...look no further!

8. Smashing Pumpkins - Greatest Hits
Heard some played at school and thought it sounded cool. This late rled to the obsession that I menmtioned in my 25 ways of the davo note...

9. The Cooper Temple Clause - See This Through And Leave
Dude at school gave me a copy of this along with stuff by Halo. Well halo are shit but this is cool and opened me up to more sounds and less traditional rock formats.

10. Deftones - White Pony
11. Korn - Self titled
12. Rammstein - Mutter (Alfie gave me a copy of this! I need to buy the actual album on day....)13. System Of A Down - Toxicity
Ok next phase - alternative metal! These are the 4 main albums I remmeber setting me off liking that whole thing. Being 17 was so fun....Oh and Deftones were my fave band for ahwile as well.

14. Sepultura - Roots
15. Fear Factory - Demanufacture
It's heavy as fuck and I loved it and still do

16. Tool - Aenima.
Yup, the one you were waiting for. Sure I had Lateralus and it was amazing. But upon purchasing and repeated listening to this TOOL became my fave band. An obessesion had begun. This pretty much influenced my whole life from then on.

And i'm still 17 at this point in the chonology and album 16 already. Oh dear....anyways pace quickens now...

17. Placebo - Without You I'm Nothing
We all know how much I love Placebo. Got this album first.

18. Marilyn Manson - Mechanical Animals
19. Nine Inch Nails - The Downward Spiral
Starting to like my music darker and Industrial at this point. Yup...that hint of goth is starting to creep in and i'm starting to discard those blue grunge jeans...

Bought alot of stuff from the last 3 bands and the previously mentioned now.

20. VNV Nation - Future Perfect
Right i'm 19 now. What the fuck. Dance music? That I like? First EBM album I got...started me in that whole direction liking all that stuff.

21. Icon of Coil - Serenity Is The Devil
22. Coveant - Northern Lights
Continuation of the EBM trend. Kinda mix buying ebm albums with some metal albums for a while now. I'm pretty set in my path so not so much influencial...

23. Lamb Of God - Ashes In the Wake
24. Judas Priest - Painkiller
These were 2 of the albums that set me back from buying EBM and stuff(so much) to buying more metal. Also Judas Priest really made me look more into old(er) school metal.

25. Slipknot - Self Titled
When I finally decided that in fact I really like Slipknot and was silly not listening to them...

26. Machine Head - The Blackening
Ok so been buying alot of stuff from wide range but this kicked me in the face and went 'oi you ya cunt fuck this ebm shit buy more metal untill your ears bleed'.

27. Snake River Conspiracy - Sonic Jihad
I may be on a massive metal kick in the past couple years, but this is a reminder that I do still really like Industrial.

28. Devildriver - The Last Kind Words
Holy fuck, give me more metal fuckers!

29. Testament - 3 Days Of Darkness
A reminder of the awesesomess of thrash.

30. Gojira - From Mars To Sirus
The most recent album on the list and one of the most jaw droppingly awesome!
